Overdue Book Policy

Progression of Notifications & Consequences

 

1 day - 1 week overdue: List of all students with overdue books posted outside the library every Thursday. Reminder appears on student school loop page.

2 - 3 weeks overdue: Reminder notice sent to 4th period on Thursdays. Reminder remains on student school loop page.

4 - 5 weeks overdue: Student called into the library to discuss overdue book on Thursdays. Reminder remains on school loop page & loop mail sent to parent and student with bill for book.

6 - 7 weeks overdue: Student called into the library on Thursday to receive a paper pick up. Reminder remains on school loop page & loop mail sent to parent and student with bill for book. Parent contacted via phone.

8+ weeks overdue: Student called into the library on Thursday to receive a detention slip.  Reminder remains on school loop page & loop mail sent to parent and student with bill for book. Parent contacted via phone. Report cards withheld until book is returned or paid for.

 

Replacement Costs

 

Fremont Unified School District charges the following for lost/damaged library books:

Paperback Books        $10.00

Hardcover Books        $25.00

If a book has been paid for and then is returned before the end of the school year, the student’s parent/guardian will be refunded the cost of the book.

Purchasing a replacement book must be discussed with the librarian in advance and will be accepted at their discretion.

 

Education Code 48904:

(b) (1) Any school district or private school whose real or personal property has been willfully cut, defaced, or otherwise injured, or whose property is loaned to a pupil and willfully not returned upon demand of an employee of the district or private school authorized to make the demand may, after affording the pupil his or her due process rights, withhold the grades, diploma, and transcripts of the pupil responsible for the damage until the pupil or the pupil's  parent or guardian has paid for the damages thereto, as provided in subdivision (a).
