COURSE DESCRIPTION AND GOALS
The primary goal of this class is to coach students in the effective use of appropriate techniques in completing learning tasks. We will work closely with your student to teach and enhance their skills in the following area:
*managing time
*materials and self
*listening in class
*effectively reading textbooks and other materials
*taking notes
*writing effectively with Common Core Standards
*preparing for and taking tests
Our program is designed to help students be more successful in their regular school program and achieve their IEP goals and objectives through various learning styles and techniques emphasized in the Core Support room.
DISCIPLINE STANDARDS AND CLASS RULES
Attendance is an important part of classroom success. Students are expected to on time and attend class regularly in order to ensure learning. Absences must be cleared with the main office through proper procedures i.e. phone call or parent note.
Some important class rules are as follows:
1. Positive attitude towards self and others
2. Give respect, get respect
3. Keep arms and legs to yourself at all times
4. No gum chewing or eating is allowed in class
5. Be honest and make a sincere effort to do all assignments
CONSEQUENCES OF INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR
1. One warning by teacher, may include paper pick-up
2. Phone call home to parents
3. Detention or referral to Vice Principal, depending on type of problem
4. Conference held as necessary
CONSEQUENCES OF POSITIVE BEHAVIOR IN CLASS
1. Student and/or class rewards by teacher
2. Improved grades in all classes
3. Class recognition and higher self-esteem
MATERIALS NEEDED IN CLASS EVERYDAY
Students are expected to bring all necessary work, textbooks, and assignments to class every day. In addition, the following are required on a daily basis:
*Students are required to keep a daily log of all regular classroom assignments, keeping the log updated will count towards quarterly grades.
*Bring to class any regular class assignments students need support on.
*Have pencils and paper supplies on a daily basis for core support work.
ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS
Students will be doing additional work in the core support room. The class is structured at two levels. One is working on IEP goals and the other to succeed in regular education classes. In order to work on IEP goals effectively, we will rotate with spelling, writing, math, and comprehension areas in accordance with what the regular classes are working on with Common Core. Usually, any assignments given in this class will be completed in the core support room.
GRADING
The students' grade in teh core support class will be based on:
*Keeping uPdated planners.
*Appropriate and timely completion of core support work.
*Participation in class activities and completion of work in regular classes.
